Through out the novel the characters are on a mission to find Dracula and eventually kill him. There should a reason to why they are on a mission.First we learn that they are on a mission to kill the vampire Lucy to set her free. Next,Mina is turning into a Vampire. The only way to stop this is by capturing Dracula. Even if Dracula had fled, one of the reason to find Dracula was to stop Mina from turning into a Vampire , to save her soul. In pare 318 chapter 22, the mark shows that Mina is slowly transforming. " ... If it may be that with all the others we can be so successful, then the sunset of this evening may shine on Madam Mina's forehead all white as ivory and with no stain!" Jonathan Harker is a changed man due to Dracula. We can see this in chapter 23. He is determined to seek Dracula and take revenge on him. Finally, the want to kill Dracula to stop him, while he's weak, before he victimize another women. Also before he gets smarter because they mention that he is learning and getting smarter. He starts with a child brain but throughout the story he learns and gets smarter.
Critical Passage
"I know that you must fight- that you must destroy even as you destroyed the false Lucy so that the true Lcuy might live hereafter; but it is not a work of hate. The poor soul who has wrought all this misery is the saddest case of all. Just think what will be his joy when he too is destroyed in his worser part that his btter part may have spiritual immorality. You mus be pitful to him too, though it may not hold your hand from his destruction." ( Page 328 chapter 22)
- This is the beginning of Mina expressing how Victorian women should be. She shows purity and forgiveness. She doesn't feel hatred but pities Dracula.
Literary Device
metaphor:
-In Chapter 21 Mina is discovered drinking the blood of Count. She admits that she had no desire to stop him from drinking her blood. Jonathan lies powerless next to her unconscious.
I think this showed the awakening sexual desire and aggression in women. Count provides something the men can't provide.
Symbolism:
- The mark on Mina's forehead shows that she is turning into a vampire. The reason why it's on her head may be because the process of turning may affect
how she thinks first then soon reaches her appearance and soul eventually. Also, when Harker left a mark on Dracula's forehead, it may be a heredity thing that happened with Mina
Reflection
Overall everything went okay. All our group members had our things done before the due date and had no disputes going on between roles. We all had a positive behavior. The only thing that bothered the team members including me were jeopardy. We thought it was going to go smoother and less chaotic. The other part I was a bit disappointed was when we couldn't get to the discussion because I thought that the questions were good. But, overall our team did good. I think better than the other teams!
